Dizengoff Fountain

The Dizengoff Fountain is also known as the Fire and Water Sculpture, because at night a flame comes out of the top through the water (don't ask me how!). It was created by Yaacov Agam and has been dedicated to the friendship between Tel Aviv and Frankfurt. On the hour, every hour, music is played and the circular rim in the middle of the fountain turns. It's very bright and cheerful and is a great site to see, especially at night.

Apparently, this is one of Yaacov Agam's famous art pieces. Another is the fountain at La Défense district in Paris.

It is a different looking fountain design. Not sure if I like the colors but it probably looks a lot more classy in person.

I imagine that of night it is even more evocative.

What a beautiful concept: fire and water together. Reminds me of the fountains in Las Vegas.

now why can't the United States come up with positive support building things like this rather than threatening countries - imagine how much better off we would all be with these gestures of kindness and goodwill - this is a great symbol of international unity and cooperation.
Great post!

Oh, I had forgotten all about this fountain- how is that possible when it's so...unforgettable?! It really is something else at night, quite unique.

I had just arrived in Tel Aviv in 1988 and was sat down in Dizengoff square checking my map and getting my bearings. Suddenly the fountain burst into life and the Voice of Richard Burton came over the PA system with the into to Jeff Wayne's "War of the Worlds". As a Welshman alone in a foreign city it was wonderful to hear the great man's voice.
