The White City

The White City (Kikar Levana) is an environmental sculpture by Dani Karavan that sits in a park at the highest point in Tel Aviv (for more detailed information: http://www.gemsinisrael.com/e_article000047912.htm). Over the next few days I will post a series of photos of these amazing sculptures.

I agree with your header about the city that never sleeps. I flew into Tel Aviv in the middle of the night in the summer of 1975 on a study abroad program and then spent 10 days in Jerusalem and the Galilee. Welcome to the DP family, Mandi, from East Lansing!

In a city very close to Paris (named Cergy-Pontoise, a new town from the 1960's/70's) Dani Karavan is the creator of a huge art project: a 3 km long axis. Originally it was a wish of the urban planners to "structure the image" of this new town (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cergy-Pontoise).
See some pictures here:

See section "permanent work" and "axe majeur" on the artist's website: http://www.danikaravan.com
