Ayalon Highway

Here's a shot of Tel Aviv from the Ayalon Highway. In the background you can see the Azrielli towers. Tomorrow I'll show you a clear shot of them. Enjoy your weekend.

Child's Play?

I was very surprised to see this. It's supposed to be one of those machines that you put money into and then direct the claw over the toy of choice (and wind up getting some other toy). But in this machine, while there are some toys, it's mostly filled with boxes of cigarettes!

Highway

Here's a shot of the highway as you're coming in to Tel Aviv. Today is a public holiday as it's Independence Day. Israel is 59 years old.

Rememberance Day

At 11am the sirens wailed across the country and the whole of Israel came to a standstill to remember the soldiers who have given their lives defending Israel. As you can see in this photo, everyone, even those driving on highways and busy main streets, stops and stands for 2 minutes silence.

Neglect

Wouldn't this be a great door (and building!) if someone took the care to renovate it?

Israel is getting ready to celebrate independence day and so Israeli flags are everywhere at the moment. This area is the Givatayim (practically a suburb of Tel Aviv) shopping mall.

Say it loud, say it proud!

Israelis don't seem to care about spelling or grammar mistakes or whether it's correct English or not they just go out and buy a huge neon flashing sign! It makes for a good laugh I suppose. So what do you think can be found at this store? Delicate Russians??

Crazy or Artistic?

Would you break in to this guy's house? I wouldn't that's for sure!! But I keep wondering whether he (or she for that matter) is genuinely crazy or just artistic. It's definitely a "unique" decoration for one's house. And you can easily spot this house amongst others. Just for the record, those aren't real weapons they're all made of wood or scrap metal or whatever he could find. You can see that when you enlarge this photo.

Armenian Convent in Jaffa

The sign just says "Armenian Convent" but when I researched it on the Internet I discovered that it has a rich history and was used by Napolean. "In the maze of streets the Armenian convent that served as a hospital for Napoleon's troops is still present. Napoleon stopped in Jaffa on his campaign through the country and, according to some sources, ordered 4,000 wounded soldiers to facilitate his withdrawal from the area." This area is currently being renovated, hence the scaffolding.
