It stopped being used as a municipality building, after the construction of the "new" municipality in what is now the welfare office, at Jerusalem (Nouzha) Boulevard.
The building then became a soup kitchen for the poor.
It was bombed by the Jewish underground just before the independence of the State of Israel. Some say because snipers used its high roof in order to shoot into Tel Aviv, others state it was done as an act of hate against the Arab population of Jaffa.
Most of the neoclassical building (which was much larger, this was the southern part of it) was destroyed.
The remaining part was renovated a year ago.yudithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13694345940567222710noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6773363876088736292.post-20400207291098475822007-04-09T18:51:00.000+03:002007-04-09T18:51:00.000+03:00So strange to have a window but no room behind it....So strange to have a window but no room behind it.RUTHhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11389012059140660415noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6773363876088736292.post-14284790421840504902007-04-09T11:45:00.000+03:002007-04-09T11:45:00.000+03:00What's happening on the second floor? What's happening on the second floor?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10349828855153546542noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6773363876088736292.post-51494465383781110292007-04-09T09:56:00.000+03:002007-04-09T09:56:00.000+03:00Hi, Mandi....Deer are up, at last. Is that how it was done?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6773363876088736292.post-57936834274959143532007-04-08T13:44:00.000+03:002007-04-08T13:44:00.000+03:00Very nice architecture. The order is Ionic and the diameter of the columns to the height of the column shaft appears to be 1:8, exactly correct for Ionic columns. The entablature is also bang on for the Ionic.
Thanks for your visit...wish I had palm trees.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
